Marikerttu describes her music as singer-songwriter folk pop with soul elements. Her music usually describes how she feels or what she would like to feel and her topics tend to be about quite fragile emotions like love, loneliness and longing. She writes in Finnish, which sometimes feels even too intimate, because it’s her mother language.
Marikerttu adores singer-songwriters such as Carole King, Norah Jones, Lauryn Hill and Paul Simon. And from Finnish music she mentions Anna Puu’s first two albums.
She likes the contrast of easy-going and light music with lyrics about true thoughts and emotions. She lets herself be vulnerable and naive in her lyrics and she wants her music to flow and feel good.
From her live set we can expect three of her songs, which have just been recorded and will be released soon! The songs are performed as stripped down versions.
“I hope the atmosphere will feel like my music: a bit mellow but comfortable and sweet.”
